Changing to 'sitename.com' instead of 'sitename.wordpress.com'
-
If I pay the $17/year to do this – will my e-mail followers automatically be transferred under the new site name? Will I lose any content or comments? Will all traffic going to or searching for my old site be automatically directed to my new site – and for what period of time, if not forever?
Also, will doing this allow me to install Javascript and plugins or is that a different sort of upgrade?
Any help is much appreciated!

nothing changes for them as long as your blog remains hosted by WordPress.com.
2. comment & content – no – nothing is lost
3. yes – domain mapping ugrades are for 1 year and one blog & need to be renewed annually
4. javascript & plugins – no – please read this entry > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/#important-notes-before-upgrading

all settings and rules are still the same when you use the free version of wordpress, so you just change the domain. if you want to be a javascript widget, you have to buy hosting and domain sendir, and it is wordpress.org
