    Hi bettyclarke,

how I can bring my followers with me to change over to my own domain name Betty Clarke?

Can you confirm which domain would you like to use for bettyclarke.wordpress.com? Also, what is the URL of the site you would like to bring your followers from?

In the subject, you mentioned changing hosting. Do you want to host your site using another company? Or keep your site hosted here on WordPress.com?

Once I know more, I’ll be happy to look at your options.

    Thanks!

    Hello Gemma

    Many thanks for the reply.

I am planning on going to BettyClarke.com and then getting the hosting company to host my site and my domain name.

    There is all my knowledge!!!

I am not sure what is next? Do I bring the WordPress site layout with me?

I am happy with WordPress, but the name is too long and the hosting too expensive?

I want to gain more followers both on my site and Facebook.

Any advise and help much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Betty

    Hi Betty,

I am happy with WordPress, but the name is too long and the hosting too expensive?

There are two options for your site:

    1. Keep your site on WordPress.com

The domain bettyclarke.com has already been registered through NameBright. If you were the person who registered the domain there, it can be connected to bettyclarke.wordpress.com with domain mapping:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Once domain mapping has been fully set up, visitors to your site will see bettyclarke.com in their browser’s address bar instead of bettyclarke.wordpress.com.

I am planning on going to BettyClarke.com and then getting the hosting company to host my site and my domain name.

If you don’t want to stay on WordPress.com and would rather use your own hosting provider, there is another option:

    2. Create a self hosted WordPress.org site

WordPress.org sites are separate from WordPress.com and hosted with a company of your choice. This guide has some information about the key differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

With this option, it won’t be possible to transfer your current theme as it’s only compatible with WordPress.com. If the domain is already owned by you, it can be pointed to your WordPress.org site from your NameBright account.

    Which option do you prefer?

I’ll be happy to send more information once I know what your plans are :)

    Hello Gemma

    I am confused.

I think that I want to go to a company here in Ireland and they will sell me my domain name and then host my site annually.

So I want to just please bring my followers with me

Can you please tell me as simply as possible how I can do this?

    Many thanks

    Betty

    Hi Betty,

I’m sorry if I confused you.

I think that I want to go to a company here in Ireland and they will sell me my domain name and then host my site annually.

Sure, with this route you’ll need to install the self hosted version of WordPress, WordPress.org, on your hosting.

We can transfer followers from your current site to your new WordPress.org site if you have the Jetpack plugin installed — this plugin creates a connection between us and your WordPress.org site that can be used to transfer your followers.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
