changing to wordpress.org

    Has anybody started a blog with wordpress.com hosting it and then switched over to self hosting with success. I am worried if we switch we will lose our search engine rank for surpluseq.wordpress.com.

    Many of us have. Yes, you will temporarily lose your page rank and Technorati standing because it’s a new url, treated as a new blog. This would happen even if you used domain mapping and stayed here. But you’ll recover in a few to several months.

    If you’re going to stay here for a while, I recommend doing the domain name purchase and mapping to bite the bullet as early as possible. Then you need to wait, I believe, 60 days to transfer the domain. The details are in the Domain Mapping support docs.
