Changing to wordpress.org

    Hi everyone,

    Sorry for being a noob.

After reading for a couple of hours the forums, I think I will need to change to wordpress.org.
At the moment I have purchased the domain for wordpress.com
But I am finding out that I cannot do what I want with my site, and from what I have read, if I change to wordpress.org and pay for a host I can make the changes I want.
Some examples of what I would like to do are – Create a forum on my page, Remove the “hosted at wordpress” bit at the bottom of the page, and perhaps eventually put advertisements on the site.

Do I need wordpress.org to do those things?

Is it possible to change it over easily? or even possible at all to change it over?

    Thanks a lot!!

Hi, biglisboa. Yes, to do the things you want to do, you would need to purchase hosting and use the software available from WordPress.com.

Creating forums on your site would require a plugin (which we cannot install here on WordPress.com), though you might want to check out the P2 theme, which can work sort of like a forum:

    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/p2/

Removing the Hosted by WordPress.com in the footer is a violation of the TOS, so cannot be done on WordPress.com

Third party advertising is also a violation of the TOS, so would also require WordPress.org if you wanted to do that.

For any specific questions about using WordPress.org, you’ll want to ask in the support forums over at http://wordpress.org/support/
