Changing URL
-
Hi,
I want to change the url of my blog. Is it advisable ? How will that affect it ? Will the content remain same in the site ? Mine is a free site.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The support page Changing a Blog Address says,
If you do change your blog address, permalinks to your old address, including search engine results, will be broken unless you purchase a Site Redirect upgrade.
Is it advisable ?
There will be undesirable consequences. Both internal and external links to posts, pages, and images on your site will be broken. The Site Redirect option will help to minimize the damage of such a change.
If you don’t opt for the redirect you may want to notify followers that links to your site that they may have in email addresses, websites, social networking accounts, etc. will be broken. Google and other search engines will retain links to your old, defunct URLs for awhile until they are gradually dropped, and eventually replaced by new listings linking to your new website, post, page, and image URLs.
Will the content remain same in the site ?
Changing the URL has no effect on the content.

Thanks for the reply.
I need some more pointers on the permalink problem though. What happens if permalink gets broken ?
What happens to the followers if I change my url ? Will they still find me in their reader tab ?
Also, what are the internal and external links ? Can they be manually fixed individually, later ? Actually my blog is pretty new with only a handful of posts and 36 followers.
Please advice. -
What happens if the permalink gets broken? Search engines downgrade your site, and readers will not be able to click links and go to your blog.
What happens to your followers? Nothing unless you buy the redirect upgrade. They will still be following the old, dead URL.
Internal links are links in your blog to other posts in your blog. You can fix them manually afterwards if you want.
Why do I get the feeling I just said all of this in another thread? Stick with one thread and don’t make me waste my typing, please.

Haa haa…yes I can see that indeed you have replied almost the same thing in both my links. However, transferring one blog to another already existing blog and changing a blog’s url seemed to me as two different topic of discussion, hence two different threads, although my username and blog’s name remained same in both the threads. How was I suppose to know both my query will find same solution of purchasing site redirect ?!
Thanks a lot anyways.
