Changing URL/ domain name

  Hi,

  I’d like to change my domain name, but get an error message when I do it in my profile. Could you help me? Do I need to buy a new domain if I want to change it?

  Could you please post what the error message says here so we can troubleshoot further? Also, please include the steps you took to reach this error.

  Sure!

  I go to my profile > settings > web address and change the URL.

  I don’t get the error message anymore, but I checked after changing the address and it didn’t work.

  Hi,

  If you would like to change the domain name for your website, you’ll first need to own the domain you’d like to change it to. You can either register a domain here on WordPress.com, or the domain can be registered elsewhere. In either case, you’ll first need an upgraded plan. If you don’t have one already, you can find more information about our plans and pricing at the following link:

  Once you have an upgrade plan, you can either register a new domain or map a domain registered elsewhere. If you’d like to register a new domain, you can find information on how to do so here:

  Register a New Domain

  If you already own a domain at another registrar you’ll first need to map the domain so it can be used on WordPress.com. You can find instructions for mapping a domain here:

  Once you own a new domain or have mapped a domain registered at another registrar, you can set the new domain as the primary by following the instructions found here:

  Do you currently have a custom domain other than zeldalehmann.fr?

  Each plan comes with one free custom domain, which I presume you already used on zeldalehmann.fr. If you would like to add a new domain you would need to purchase it through the Domain section on in your Site Admin. Once you complete the checkout process, you should see the new domain in the Domain section under the Domain tab.

  Next, you will want to set this new domain as ‘primary,’ these steps will guide you through the process:
