Changing url to something else
-
I am in the process of building out a website on WordPress (I love WordPress!). But the url will have to be changed to something different in another week once the site is complete. We have not decided what the new url will be. Once we select and purchase a url can the site be switched over? Can I do this thru WordPress thru the paid option?
Thanks!

WordPress.COM is a turnkey operation. We don’t invest a week into building sophisticated websites here at WordPress.COM, we simply restructure our blogs to achieve a website-like appearance.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/ and http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/07/25/create-a-wordpress-website-step-by-step/
Read this comparison carefully please http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can create themes, upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database, etc. If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.

What I post below applies only to WordPress.COM hosted blogs.
When you purchase domain mapping the content stays exactly where it is and nothing except the URLs changes.
Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.
You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades to purchase upgrades for the blog.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Register & map a domain name – make sure you are in the correct dashboard so the domain name goes to the correct blog – Registration & Mapping $18.-/yr ($5.- + $13.-)

Thank you for your responses!
I have not yet purchased the new url. Would it make things easier to purchase it thru WordPress rather than GoDaddy? Would I avoid an extra charge with GoDaddy by doing it all thru WordPress?
Please advise!
