Changing user name when you have multiple accounts/sites

    I have a question relating to changing user names.

    I have two wordpress sites: pablocreasmanovich.wordpress.com, which is hosted by wordpress directly. I also have a separate site, azbeertraveler (dot) com, managed and hosted by GoDaddy. However, both accounts utilize the same user name (long story). I can access both sites through the wordpress log-in page, and azbeertraveler additionally via GoDaddy’s access point.

    pablocreasmanovich has recently been subject to a hacking attempt (I received an e-mail saying someone wanted to change my password, not me, I ignored it) and that led me to reviewing my site accounts. This is how I learned that both websites/blogs have the same user name (but different passwords). I didn’t realize this since pablocreasmanovich had been dormant for a long time. [I am wondering if someone did actually enter my account, or if it is just random spam. I looked around, nothing changed]

    Because of this, I wish to change my user name for pablocreasmanovich so as to distinguish it from my GoDaddy managed site. However, in researching user name changes, I learned that once a username is changed, the previous one can’t be used ever again.

    So, my question is…if I change the username for my pablocreasmanovich account, managed by wordpress, will I lose the username/access for azbeertraveler, managed by GoDaddy? Does changing the user name for pablocreasmanovich affect what happens with the other site, or are they both completely separate entities?

    Hi,

    It sounds like your account is managing multiple sites.

    Your username is linked to your account.

    If you change your username, it will show this across both sites. You’re unable to change your username on each site individually – because they’re managed by the one account. You would need to have two different WordPress accounts with different usernames to do this.
