Changing Username

  If I change my username from xxx to yyy, does everything on xxx remain the same or does it get deleted? It seems like it should remain, but the checkbox option to change says ‘Change your current username (xxx) and discard the current account.’ I am unsure what ‘discard’ means. Thanks in advance for your help!

  Note: You will not be able to change your username back. The old name will be reserved and no one will have access to it. URLs for other services such as Gravatar may be affected.

  Hi there,

  You have two options: You can keep the old username, in which case a new account will be created for the new username. Or you can discard the old username which means we don’t create a second account, the old username is deleted from our system, and can never be used again. Either way, everything that is in your account will only be accessible via the new username after the change, and the old username, should you keep it, will be for a new, empty account.
