Changing Username

Hi there,
It’s possible that username has since been deactivated. In that case it will still show that it already exists if you try to register it, as we do not release deactivated usernames for re-use.
What is the username you’re trying to use? Then I can at least make sure what’s going on for you.
-
If it was previously used, it was most likely mine. I wanted sarahelizabell. It is my handle for lal my social media. I thought at one point I hat a wordpress blog with it… but I cannot remember
-
See here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/users/sarahelizabell and know that username is not available as it has been previously registered.
-
Is there a way to make it available if it’s not being used? If the answer is no, then that is lame and wordpress should change/fix that rule.
Is there a way to tell the email associated with it? I am thinking it is an old account of mine.
-
No.
You can update your email address associated with your username account here https://wordpress.com/me at any time.
If you are not logged in under the correct WordPress.COM username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies prior to logging into another account
If you did not register the site under your username account and do not have the required access, then you need to contact the person who registered the account and site under it, and have them act or transfer the site to your username account by using this process. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account
If the login information has been lost go to
You can try using the lost password link and then check all likely email addresses for receipt.
If you check each and every possible email address and account and are not successfully gaining access to the blog then you must complete the form for account recovery at this link https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery so you can be contacted by email ie. not on these public support forums, which are available to everyone with internet access. Support Staff cannot breach the privacy policy and provide the log-in information. You have to provide proof ownership to Account Recovery Staff to gain access https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

Obviously it cannot be put on a public forum. However, this is the only contact method I could find for WordPress. Seems WordPress is more trouble than it all is worth… would be nice to have an actual support team to contact.

You were answered by Staff (kokkieh) above.

Thanks timethief – found the old confirmation email – it was a username of mine and hopefully someone can help me resolve it. I filled out the recovery form!

Sadly you won’t be able to reuse your old site though:
sarahelizabell.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site. -

Hi there,
I’m glad you were able to recover your username. I am afraid that the WordPress.com site name has been deleted from our system and cannot be reused. We do this to prevent impersonation.
Recently we did change our policy on site deletion to allow sites deleted in the past 30 days to be restored. However, that particular site was deleted years ago and cannot be restored.
Sorry we couldn’t help you our further and do let us know if you have other questions.
