changing web address of exsisting blog

I have a blog. I am very happy with it. I changed my user name. I would like the existing blog – the one I am very happy with – to have a web address that matches the user name. I tried to do this and the site just gave me another blog. So for example my old user name was idiot. My blog address was idiot.wordpress.com I love the blog and want to continue with it. I do not wish to start another blog. I changed my user name to web head. I would like my blogs address to be webhead.wordpress.com instead of idiot.wordpress.com. Is there away to do this??????

From what you are saying it sounds like you want to move your blog. This support doc should help

You will most likely want to move your subscribers too which it looks like WordPress can do for you

wow…thanks…sounds as if it is what I need but if I may – my blog says it is the primary and when I tried on my own and failed I somehow started a blog with the address I want. Can I delete this or use this in the transfer? I truly do not want to loose my blog and have to start over

I’d use the blog you created with the address you want in the transfer. If you delete the blog you won’t be able to reuse the address. From a support doc:
Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to reuse its WordPress.com address (such as yourgroovysite.wordpress.com).
Once the transfer is complete you can set the new blog as your primary via My Blogs in your dashboard.

Yeah, so I never recommend that procedure at all. What I recommend is that you simply register the other URL you want and then transfer the contents of the old blog into the new one. Then set the old one to Private. That way you keep both.
It’s a LOT easier to help you if you give us the exact usernames and blog URLs starting with http. So, if someone has already taken it, we can tell you, etc.

I did the export thing without issue…I thought I did the import thing as well but….I received an email stating that the import failed…so I go back and try to import it again and it says it is being imported and that I will get an email when it is complete….so I go back and read the failure email again and it says to go to link provided if I have any questions…that link sends me to a page that says nothing found and directs me back to here…sigh…raincoaster – no one has taken either urls as I still have them both…I simply want my first blog to be my only blog but I want the address to be that of my second choice.
