Changing Width of Content Space for the Pilcrow Theme
-
Adding a sidebar in the Pilcrow theme makes the text content too bunched for my liking. My Hands Made It (myhandsmadeit.com), a blog that uses the Pilcrow theme, has a sidebar, but the text content isn’t bunched. Is there a way to change the width of the space using CSS? Thanks in advance! My blog’s address is blacknectar.me.

I second this request! Is there also a way you can make the text a bit bigger as well as the leading? I think that as it is it’s far too narrow to put much content in to be readable. Thanks!

@boostew
Have you purchased an annually renewable custom design upgrade so you can do the required CSS editing? -
Thanks for the very quick reply! I haven’t bought the custom upgrade yet as I’m still checking things out on WordPress (just come over from Blogger). I think all roads are pointing in that direction though.
Thanks again for the help! -

To widen the width of the content area in the Pilcrow theme, try this:
.two-column #container { max-width:1000px; } -

Hi designsimply,
I upgraded, tried this and it worked!! I’d also now like to tweak the size of the sidebar content (down a bit) and the main body text (up a bit). This looks like the relevant part of the CSS style sheet (pasted below), but I can’t figure out what I should tweak. It’s also distorted the header image now (which I’ve taken off), but perhaps I’ll have to start a new thread or add to another. My site is here: http://boostew.com Thank you!
/* Content-Sidebar layouts */
.content-sidebar #content-container {
float: left;
margin: 0 -30.4% 0 0;
}
.content-sidebar #content {
margin: 0 35.1% 0 0;
}
.content-sidebar #sidebar,
.content-sidebar #secondary-sidebar {
float: right;
}
.content-sidebar #secondary-sidebar {
clear: right;

The reason there’s extra space at the top of the text on the home page is because there’s space for a title but you’ve left the title blank. To adjust that, I would just remove the title and the spacing will snap up. You could also ad a little extra padding tot he top of the sidebar as follows:
.home .entry-title { display: none; } #sidebar { padding-top: 10px }Adjust the number as necessary.
