Hi yukimuliblog!
To set up a portfolio, based your current theme, try this and let me know if it is what you had in mind.
You will first need to create a new page that will act as your ‘Static Home Page‘. To do this you will need to go to ‘Pages’ -> ‘Add’.
Next you will need to give your new page a title. From there, on the right-hand side, under ‘Page Attributes‘ select the dropdown that reads ‘Page Template‘. From there you will want to play around with the different options depending on the look you are going for. Perhaps try the ‘Full Width, No Sidebar‘ option.
Once this has been done it is time to add some images(your portfolio items). In the body of your new page, select the ‘+‘ at the top left and select ‘Add Media‘ and then upload all the images you want to show. Once done uploading select all of the images you want to show on your page and press ‘continue‘. From there you can select different options based on your personal preference (Tiled, Mosaic, Circles, Square Tiles, Etc.) for how you want your portfolio to look. Once you have decided on the look press ‘Insert’. If all looks good, ‘Publish’ your new Home page.
You will then need to set up a ‘Static Home Page’ instead of a homepage that shows your most recent posts. You will want your static home page to be the page created in the steps above. Please find some helpful instructions on how to do that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
In short: ‘Customize‘ ->’Static Front Page‘ -> ‘A Static Page‘ ->Select your new page from the dropdown.
Once this has been completed your new home page should look more like a portfolio.
Give this a try and let me know if this is what you were trying to achieve. Perhaps there is a better way to achieve this, and if so other members from the WordPress.com community will weigh in.
In any case, I hope this helps!
