Charged for a premium theme I never used?

Why was I charged for a premium theme that I never actually purchased, installed, or used? It was a 40 dollar charge AFTER my website renewal expired .. you think there would be some forewarning? At least an email?

WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours. https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades
Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.
Provided you are logged in under the exact same username account that purchased the upgrade, and you are within the allowed time frame for refunds, you can cancel and request a refund from your dashboard > Store > My Upgrades. http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades

Thanks, for further clarification, I have two sections in my billing history, and two sections in My Upgrades category. Expiring on the 19th of May was a $39 “Custom Design,” which I have never, to my knowledge purchased, I simply would not have bought a custom theme for $40 because I don’t really use the website enough, which leads me to believe perhaps the Theme I was using was converted to a pay-for-theme, of which I was never notified? It says when I first paid for the website, two days later I paid for a custom design (this was last year) which, again, to my knowledge I never did. Then, on the 19th of May this year I was charged again for a recurring bill for that theme, despite the fact that I did not renew my website and had no intention of doing so. I’ve subscribed to the thread in the hopes to at least get an answer or resolve this, I did check out “My Upgrades” but found no refund option for the Custom Design I was charged for. Thanks in advance.
