Charges for domain connection even though it’s registered with another site
-
My site is not working and it seems to be about a charge from WordPress to eliminate WordPress from the url name. In addition, there is a charge for over $100 for ‘late domain name’ registration. I would like to revert to having WordPress in the name since my url is registered with Hover.com. Please remove the domain name ‘connect’ late charge and renewal. My understanding is after this cancellation, my site will operate as normal except the url bar the browser will show ‘theinequalityproject.wordpress.com. My Hover domain ‘theinequalityproject.com’ should point to this WordPress site. Is that correct? Thank you.

Howdy!
Thanks for getting in touch. I’ll be glad to help.
There are 2 main parts to every website. The domain registration and the hosting. You need both of these in order for a site to work. These 2 items can be through the same provider, or different ones.
Looking at your domain, theinequalityproject.com, I can see that the domain is registered through ENOM. Your domain points to our managed hosting at WordPress.com. But, in order for your domain to work with our hosting you’ll want to buy a hosting plan.
Those plans, details, and prices are visible on https://wordpress.com/pricing/ Give that a look and let me know if you have any follow up questions.
Typically domain registrations are renewed annually. You can continue to do that through ENOM or you can transfer your domain here (which is included in the hosting plan) and have both domain registrations and hosting in one space.
If you already own a domain name with another provider, you can use that domain with your WordPress.com site. Once you complete the steps below, instead of your site address being something like yourgroovysite.wordpress.com, your site’s address will be something like yourgroovydomain.com. Follow the steps in this guide to keep your domain registered with your current provider and use it to show
