Charges to my credit card for "premium" upgrade

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I had signed up to the “30 day premium trial” and it charged my card within 14 days. I feel very deceived because I knew I had 30 days and didn’t expect this to be charged. Not only that, I am very unhappy with the premium “features” as the custom header is only a few inches in size and overall the features are clearly not sufficient for my business website.

So I made changes before midnight on the 11 April (yesterday) and tried to change it, however my email has not been working properly so I was unable to make the change. I don’t know if the email wasn’t working because of WP or Crazy Domains, as I had the domain pointed to WP.

I am really annoyed about this, because I had made every attempt to cancel that premium trial, but still it took my money, and only a few hours after I tried to cancel it! To me it felt like it was just taken out because I had asked for the cancellation.

I am about to upgrade altogether to a premium theme, so would rather put that $99 towards that. They seem to have better features and not be so limited and difficult to use.

Please can you make that refund ASAP as I really don’t want to waste the money on something that is useless for me, when I can get a premium theme.

    Thanks
    Amanda

Hi – further to the above, since I actually cancelled the premium upgrade (and got an email confirmation about it), I have actually PAID for the upgrade, even though my access to the functions (albeit limited) has been removed. VERY FRUSTRATING!! I have paid for something that essentially I cannot use!

    Hi,

I sent a very polite but assertive email last week regarding a credit card payment taken off my card that fraudulently and deceptively happened. I gave you a few days to rectify the situation and no body has bothered to respond.

I signed up a “FREE” 30 day premium trial (which isn’t really free, it was $99) and was give 30 days to cancel. I cancelled it after 14 days, on the 11/4/14 as per the email below (it was sent to my husband’s email as I couldn’t access my emails due to issues with WP MX records for email). Clearly, you can see that I asked for a cancellation and it was well and truly within the 30 day period. Further, the premium functionality has been disabled so essentially I have paid for something I do not have access to.

This is illegal, misleading and highly unethical commercial practice. WordPress, you really should be ashamed of yourselves.

You have 24 hours to rectify the situation, refund my credit card or I am seeking a consumer lawyer to seek a class action suit against your company. There are probably many other customers you have fraudulently taken payment from without any accountability or consequence.

I have worked in marketing for many years and I know when something is not within the law and within the means of consumer rights to safety, honesty and integrity. I know when customers are being ripped off behind a faceless organisation that fails to take any responsibility or be accountable to their actions.

Please refund my credit card in 24 hours or the next time you hear from me will be from a lawyer and given the evidence of this case, you will not win. There are also thousands of other comments in the forum that give the same account as mine and it will serve as very substantial evidence in a court of law.

Any further ignored emails or complaints will not work favourably for you. It is best for you to refund the $99 as I will most certainly fight this one, along with many others who similarly share the same frustration.

No, that is not correct. The amount was taken off my account and I even received an email stating that it was to happen. Also, my credit card bank statement shows that it $99 was taken from my account on the 12th April, 2014 – the same day as the email was sent (see below).

I have sufficient evidence to show that it WAS taken off my account.
If you had read my message properly, you would’ve seen that I had attempted to CANCEL the account, and it cancelled, but still billed me on the 12th of April.

I am currently seeking legal action from a consumer lawyer in California. I would suggest that you fix this ASAP and have that amount reimbursed to my credit card in the next 24 hours unless you want a lawsuit on your hands. WP, you are operating unlawfully, not providing any goods or services to the customer and deceptively charging. There are thousands of other accounts on the forum exactly the same as mine so I expect you to respond with some dignity and respect for your customers and issue a refund before this is escalated through the legal system.

The upgrade has been refunded on April 11th. Note that it can take up to a week before the refund appears on your statement. It’s possible that there is a slight bank delay due to easter.

The email reminder was sent one day before you were charged. It’s possible that due to the time difference you received it on the 12th. However, we charged it when the 14-day trial period expired.
