Charity account
-
I’m setting up a site for a registered UK charity. I can manage most of what I need to do with the personal account, however, I’m struggling to set up a clean and tidy order forms as the plugins are only available on the business pack which is out of our price range. Do WP offer complimentary upgrades in situations like this, or is there a way of formatting the look of shortcode?
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

Hi there,
I’m not sure I understood your question. Can you tell us a bit more about what you are setting up, as well as what you mean by “clean and tidy order forms” so we can better understand?
We do not offer complimentary upgrades but if you can tell us more about what you are trying to set up we’re happy to take a look.
Also I noticed that you have this form on your site: https://rustingtonscouts.wordpress.com/uniform-shop/
To clarify, we do not have ecommerce functionality built in to our free sites, so it is not possible to use a form like that to collect payment info for a transaction. If you are trying to set up ecommerce on your site you may want to consider the guide we created here: https://wordpress.com/support/ecommerce/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi,
To clarify, I was wondering with shortcode, if you’re able to change the field sizes, as currently it looks very bulky, and have more than one field on a line, for example the group polo shirt drop down, with a wry drop down to the right.
I’m quite new at this, so piecing everything together from different sites I can find advice on.We’re not looking to go full ecommerce, as there are only a few items that our members get from us, so we’re just trying to make things a bit slicker. We can offer card payments through a SumUp account (as well as a shop, but that has a charge), so the thought is to get an online form figured out which will email through, and then we can point people to the online card payments.
Thanks for clarifying on the charity accounts status, it’s always worth asking.
Hopefully that explains what I’m after a bit better
Cheers

Hi there,
Are you speaking of the contact form at https://rustingtonscouts.wordpress.com/uniform-shop/?
The contact form shortcode is a legacy feature, made for the classic WordPress editor which was replaced by the block editor back in 2019. The only way to style a form added via the shortcode is by using custom CSS code, which requires our Premium Plan.
A much simpler way to add a form to your site is the Form Block. And specifically in this case, that block allows you to set the width of individual form fields, so you can have multiple fields on the same line. You can find more information about this block here:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/form-block/
We also offer JotForm, Google Forms and Crowdsignal integration, which might offer other styling and functionality features our built-in contact form doesn’t have, so you can take a look at those as well.
https://wordpress.com/support/forms/
then we can point people to the online card payments.
Another option you can consider for payments is PayPal – you can generate a simple Buy Now button in PayPal and embed that in your site, which people can then use to pay using either a PayPal balance, or a connected card/bank account:
https://wordpress.com/en/support/paypal/
You can add a button like that for donations as well, if you wanted.

Hi Kokkieh,
Yes, I was speaking of https://rustingtonscouts.wordpress.com/uniform-shop/
I am planning to upgrade the plan, but was hoping that I could do what I needed to with the Personal rather than the Premium. That’s handy to know with the form block, I hadn’t realised that you could add extra fields to it that way, I thought it was a standard base form, so I’ll have a play with that.
Is there a way of making the fields thinner in the form block?Thank you for the other info too, it’s certainly giving me something to look at and think about.
Regards

Is there a way of making the fields thinner in the form block?
Can you clarify what you mean here? If you can give us a page example where it’s published and what you’d like to see instead we’d be better able to advise.

Well, I can change the field width to 25/50/75/100%
But is there a way of changing the height of the fields, so when stacked, they don’t take up as much space on the page?
Unfortunately I don’t have an example I can show you, but it’d be like taking it from font size 16 to font size 10. -
There isn’t a way to change the field height in the editor, but it can be altered via CSS, which will require a paid Premium or higher plan: https://wordpress.com/support/editing-css/
