charity sponsored site

    Hi,

I wasn’t sure where to send this message … as I couldn’t find a company site or email or contact form … so please redirect me if required.

I have started (with my partner Jane) a community based animal welfare initiative (called Dog Friendly Society) … and while we are doing everything on the smell of an oily rag, we have been lucky to have some website hosting donated to us by an Australian hosting company that you might be familiar with called NetRegistry … but, some of the functionality we want to develop would be best done in Drupal, while the blogging & social media side of things is best done in WordPress (because the wordpress.com hosted blogs do everything we need straight out of the box so to speak) …

… now there are another couple of issues here … because NetRegistry are Australian based, we definitely want to take advantage of their kind offer, and we have done so … because they are local to us, which of course makes it easier for support … however, we do not have any guarantee of ongoing hosting with them, though they did say that if they can see we are achieving good things, they will likely extend it … but with that slight level of uncertainty there, I just want to be sure I have our arse covered in any eventuality … and since the most vital initial functionality of that site is blogging & the connection to social media, it makes sense to perhaps have that part of the site not only run with WordPress, but also hosted on WordPress.com rather than on the NetRegistry servers, and so if for any reason they didn’t renew their support for our group, we would not have to worry so much about losing the main welcome page of the site temporarily, because the blog would still be up & running … not ideal, but better than a complete SNAFU if you get my drift :-)

    … anyway …

So what I want to do, is to have part of our site developed in Drupal on that donated host server (which will later include all sorts of collaboration functionality, where Drupal is still ahead of WordPress technically), but the Blog link in the website menu will connect to a WordPress blog that handles everything related to blogging & social media connectivity (particularly Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and so forth) … now, this all might mean we need some incredible customisation done later down the track, because we may want to query information from one part of the site (hosted by WordPress.com) and present it on another part of the site, hosted by NetRegistry on DogFriendlySociety.org … but for now, we dont have to worry about it, and that is likely still a few years away.

    … so that’s the background …
But my questions to you today are:

    – 1 –
Since we own the dogfriendlysociety.org domain, but that site is currently hosted on NetRegistry … would it be possible to have a blog.dogfriendlysociety.org domain as some kind of alias that points to a Dog Friendly Society WordPress.com blog? … I don’t know if that means we set up the alias on that NetRegistry server that has the domain name registered, and it just points to dogfriendlysociety.wordpress.com or exactly how it would work … could you offer me some advice on doing this please?

    – 2 –
Since I believe that WordPress does have some pretty good shopping functionality (?), and one of our primary concerns at this early stage of our organisation’s development is to raise money so that we can incorporate & register as a tax-exempt charity, and a whole range of other things that need to be done that we just haven’t been able to afford to do … would it be possible to have WordPress.com donate to us (for some period of time, in exchange for us publicly thanking you whenever & wherever we get the chance) a premium account to use, so that we can really get things running brilliantly & hopefully get some income in for the organisation?

I know that’s a big ask … but I would be happy to discuss it with you via phone or Skype … we really need all the help we can get at these early stages … but it is our goal to make ourselves financially self sufficient in the long run.

I would be happy to discuss our organisation’s mission & future plans with you if it helps convince you we are worthy of that support :-)

I am available via email phone & Skype to discuss:
