Chateau theme: Customizer won't load/can't upload header
-
New blogger here, and I have started by importing all my posts from Tumblr; chose the Chateau theme and would like to upload a custom header (which it supports) but the Customize feature will not load… so I cannot upload my header image. It says ‘loading design tools’ but that’s it. I did see on a previously answered question that the Customizer won’t load until a blog has published posts… but I do have them (obviously ;-) , so that doesn’t seem to the be issue. Using Win7 and Firefox 34. I disabled NoScript in case that was the problem but the Customizer still doesn’t load. Any advice? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. I’ve found the Customizer sometimes gets stuck if my connection is slow, so try resetting your modem/router and see if that helps. It won’t hurt to clear your browser cache and cookies either (http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/).
You can also check on the classic dashboard (http://chatsworthlady.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) if there’s a Header option under Appearance in the menu. Some themes let you change the header from there without having to use the Customiser.

Hm, I know speed isn’t the problem because I’m on a high-speed broadband and everything else loads fine. Unfortunately there isn’t a Header option under Appearance in the menu; I checked all the dropdowns including within Theme Options. I have Firefox set to Private Browsing and cookies for Session Only which is my default setting; FFox is also my only browser (I refuse to use Explorer or Chrome). This laptop is also the only device I have access to.
Another weirdness is that when I first log in, all I see is a blank (light blue) page with a darker blue bar across the top; the links at the upper left are for My Sites and Reader, and on the right are icons for New Post, Avatar and Bell(?). If I click on any of these, nothing happens; in order to do anything, I have to go to my bookmarked blog page; there, the top bar is black and the dropdown menus become functional.
It’s really frustrating because my usual browser settings work fine on all other sites, including Tumblr.
I do have AdBlock running but that’s been the case for years (literally) and there’s no way I want to have to turn that off. Also Ghostery but that is only blocking Kissmetrics and Google Analytics here; it’s allowing Gravatar widgets. In any case, trackers shouldn’t be interacting with a display function.
Any ideas? The theme’s default banner is nice but I’d really like to upload one of my choosing. I did try a different theme at the very beginning (Nuntius) and that one didn’t load the Customizer either. I was less than happy with the appearance of Nuntius and so when I found the Chateau theme it was perfect… but still won’t load the Customizer. Thanks!

Any ideas?
My next suggestion would have been to try a different browser and to disable your add-ons to see if either the browser or the add-ons could be the problem. Those are the normal troubleshooting steps for this kind of problem and probably the first thing staff would also suggest you do if I tag this thread for them.
I’ll go ahead and tag the thread for staff anyway. They’ll be able to check if there’s another issue with your site.

Okay, I am a total and complete idiot, LOL! I just thought to doublecheck the cookie settings in Firefox and for some reason the ONLY one of my usual sites that I had NOT set for “session cookies allowed” was… WordPress. It was still on Block. Once I’d reconfigured that, voila! Not only did the Customizer load, but the formerly-blank-blue pages loaded up beautifully as well.
Hopefully this will help someone else who may need to add to the Exceptions list for cookies/private browsing in Firefox. (I still feel like a dope, though, lol)

I’m glad to hear it’s working now. Make sure you have cookies allowed for both WordPress.com and WP.com.
I’ll remove the staff tag again as this no longer requires their help. Happy blogging :)
