Chateau theme – limited HTML markup available
-
Hi
I use the Chateau theme – for three blogs actually, as I have not found another theme I like as much.
One of my few frustrations with this theme is that there seems to be limited HTML markup available. For example:
* I have tried to markup headings
<h1>,<h2>and<h3>but they all just render the same as<strong>. I am a technical writer by occupation and I would like to be able to use a hierarchy of headings.* I have also tried to markup
<table>and its associated tags<tr>and<td>. The rendering is only partial – I can see the<tr>but the individual<td>cells within it are not rendered. Can someone please explain to me the scope of HTML markup available in Chateau; it would also be good to know if it is documented in the theme’s description (and if so, where) .
Thank you
Peter

Does the Custom Design upgrade let me edit HTML?
No. The Custom Design upgrade allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. If you require this functionality, please consider moving your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications, suitable hosts can be found here. http://get.wp.com/hosting/ Read more about why here. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/ You can choose to apply your custom fonts or custom stylesheet to any of the themes available on WordPress.com. You can use any WordPress.com theme as a blank canvas if you check the Don’t use the theme’s original CSS option in the Appearance → Customize → CSS panel. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions -
Hi timethief and thank you for replying.
I appreciate the link to the WP Support page on Writing & Editing
Code.Your reply does not answer my question. I am trying to find out why common HTML markup that the Writing & Editing
Code page claims is allowed in posts (I assume for all themes) does not work correctly in the Chateau theme.I would really like to be able to see a definitive list of the HTML markup supported and tested in the Chateau theme.
I think it might be better for me to raise this issue with WP Support.
Thanks for trying to help.

See here http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#html-tags
as this applies to ALL WordPress.com blogs.
Then see:

There is no such list. If there had been one I would have provided a link to it.

Hi timethief
I found a partial answer to my question – if I use the visual editor, h1 through to h6 styles are available. They are called Header 1, Header 2 etc. but they do use the <h1></h1> etc. tags. For some reason Header 3 is the biggest and boldest and is further picked out by being underlined for the full page width , so I am using that one.
It is also possible to change the text colour and I am doing that to make the headings more prominent. Thanks for your help.
