Check-in Feature in WordPress
-
I am new to WordPress and have never built an actual website in my life. I would like to implement a check in feature into my website, similar to that of Foursquare or the Facebook check in feature. Is there a widget that does this already, or would I have to code it all myself? If so how would I get started?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You would have to scrap your WordPress.COM blog, on which that is not possible, and start over at WordPress.ORG.
-
What is the difference between the two? Also, once I did that what exactly would I need to do?

You would need to buy hosting; how expensive it is depends on how popular it’s going to be and how resource-intensive. Research the check in feature (I suspect there are many available, and they will all cost you a fair bit). Decide on one, pay for it, install software from WordPress.org in your purchased web space, and then handle upgrades and tech support for your own site.

is there a way to move to wordpress.org without hosting? Like just start of making the site offline and then pay for hosting after it was been completed?

Yes you can get a free WordPress.org software install and run it on your own server but once again that’s not what we provide support for here at WordPress.com. That support is found at http://wordpress.org/support/ and if you do not have a username account registered there click that link and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens when you do.
