Checking ‘Other’ Results on Polls

Originally when I created CrowdSignal polls through the built-in interface for WordPress.com, I could allow voters to type their own answers by adding an ‘other’ option and when I looked at the results, I could see what answers they put in. A couple weeks ago, I realized that I can no longer see the answers, just how many people selected ‘other.’ Is there a way I can get those answers back?

  • You’ll see these in the sidebar to the right when you click “Other” on the results page.

At the bottom of that sidebar, you can click “See all votes” to expand the list.

Oh! I see now! I was confused because I’ve always been able to see the ‘other’ results from the WP Admin results page. But I just realized that I can also view more detailed results from CrowdSignal’s webpage and I see what you mean about clicking on ‘other’. Thank you!

By the way, when I click on ‘other’ some of the answers get cut off. Is there any easy way to see the full answer? When I clicked on ‘see all answers’ at the bottom, I’m literally seeing all the answers instead of just the ones in the ‘other’ category.

  • Could you send a screenshot of what you mean exactly? You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply.

    Poll Results
It might be kind of hard to tell since it’s small, but in the sidebar over on the right side you can see the answers that people typed in for the “other” category and some of them have … to show that the comment has been cut short. I can fix this by clicking the “See all votes” button at the bottom, but then I am literally seeing ALL the votes, not just the ones for other, so that’s a lot to sift through. As far as I can tell though, there is no other way of seeing the full answer that the users submitted and there is no option to sort the votes on this page either.

  • Hi there,

It is possible to export the full data of the poll, but it is a paid feature so you will need an upgrade to do that: https://crowdsignal.com/support/exporting-data/

However, it is possible to use the “browser inspector” tool to see results that are truncated with a ‘…’ since they are in the source code.

To do that you can ‘right-click’ on the shortened text, and in Chrome choose the
“Inspect” option that shows up in the floating menu. This will open an “inspector panel” and show you the raw text found in the source code. You can see what I see at this link: https://d.pr/i/SivJui

    Hope this helps!

Wow. I never even considered looking at the source code haha. Thank you! That’s actually a pretty simple solution! Once I run out of free votes, I’ll consider upgrading, but for now this works perfectly for me. Thank you!

staff-blorbo staff-mckluskey staff-totoro thank you all for your help!! I really appreciate it :)
