I am trying to upgrade my account to personal so I can have a custom domain name which I already have via go daddy.
When I go to my cart and checkout, I chose paypal and then it directs me to paypal. After i sign in and complete the purchase it takes me back to check out? I have no received any confirmation if this has been accepted or not?
Please can you guide me how I can purchase the upgrade and connect my domain name to WordPress.

There is no e-commerce capability here. There is no secure payments system here at wordpress.COM and you cannot add a shopping cart to sites hosted by wordpress.COM. See: Moving to Self-Hosted WordPress
https://move.wordpress.com/E-commerce plugin options have been removed here at WordPress.COM. Secure payment systems are not available here at wordpress.COM. You need a wordpress.ORG install. Please read this https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/e-commerce-22?replies=17#post-2575955
Provided you are selling only what you yourself make or a service that you personally provide on a wordpress.COM site you have two options.
(1) PayPal – Know that the only instructions that will work for posting a PayPal donation button on a WordPress.com blog are found here http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/
Note that the PayPal email link is not supported and PayPal customization options are not supported either https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/paypal-button-41?replies=12#post-2517229 This is not likely to be changed any time soon, if at all.(2) If you set up an eCommerce site somewhere else online you can create a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and include a custom link to that site in it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-links
Some bloggers create a contact form https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/ on a page and after the people have made a PayPal donation they provide the link to a private page for downloading files. Maybe that will work for you.

Please ignore my first response above.
If you want to use a domain URL that purchased elsewhere to map to from your wordpress.com site, you have to register a plan and purchase a domain mapping upgrade http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/ that is annually renewable.
You require and underlying .wordpress.com site to domain map from to your domain URL. WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. See: Map an existing domain (one you already own) to your WordPress.com blog – if you already have a domain that you registered and purchased elsewhere.

I understand the process for upgrading my account in order to add (map) existing domain name. The issue I am having is when I try to upgrade my account and get through to the PayPal stage which they accept as payment. It doesn’t come back with any confirmation if my account has been upgraded or if the payment has gone through. It takes me back to my normal account page with my upgrade sitting in the cart? Is this just a site issue wordpress is having? As I can’t purchase an upgrade or its not going through once I complete my purchase via paypal to upgrade my wordpress.com account.

Hi there,
I see you’ve been able to add a domain mapping upgrade already. I don’t see any failed payments in your account, so this might have been a glitch on PayPal’s end, but it looks like it went through in the end.
