Child Friendly Ads on Free Plan

    Hello

    We run a website for a school parents group and users are seeing ads which are not child friendly (some of the ads specifically say 18+ and unsuitable for kids).

    Totally OK with showing ads on a free site, but is there a way to have them be specifically family friendly ads?

    There is no way to stear the ads on a site. Best solution is to upgrade to the Personal Plan.

    This is a very complicated subject. The same ads aren’t shown to all visitors to a free WordPress.com site. The ads depend on your location and also on the visitor’s browser and cookie history. When I visited your site the ads displayed to me were from eBay and featured items I had recently looked at there. Do those 18+ ads display to everyone you know that visits your site regularly or just to one or two people with certain cookies on their devices due to previous browsing history?

    Note too there is a “report this ad” you can click on if you think boundaries have been crossed regarding decency.

    Thanks both. I had thought that might be the case but wanted to double check I wasn’t missing something.

    It was another parent that reported that and I didn’t see those ads personally so appreciate they will vary by user.

    I guess WP is not incentivised to spend time segregating ads for their free accounts.

    Reporting the unwanted ads is definitely a good start, however, after checking the website several times, I wasn’t able to load the ads mentioned above. If the issue keeps appearing, please let us know here and we’ll be happy to review this further.

    Optionally, take a screenshot and right-click the ad to copy the URL it’s linked to. Don’t click the ad directly, as it will probably redirect to a different URL. Once you have this information, please feel free to contact us and we’ll investigate the issue.
