child page misdirects to Parent page
-
I tried to describe exactly what my issue is in my blog entry for 16 October 2009. If anyone could read that and offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Basically it is two issues, but the 2004 link and page is being misdirected to the Poetry Main Parent page for some reason. Other links on other sub pages are disappearing while many are working fine. Very frustrating and beyond my knowledge to deal with. Help please?

You cannot name pages with years. It confuses wordpress since your 2004 archive page would be http://purplesplatitudes.wordpress.com/2004/ . You have to add something to the page name/URL such as 2004-poetry.

wow something that simple huh? thanks. I corrected the slug and the link and they seem to work as intended now. I am uncertain what happened to some of my poems and their corresponding links, but I can chase that issue down myself. Appreciate the help!!

one other question for clarification, which may be part of my problem with my self-created links. Is there a limitation on length of a slug and do special characters, such as a hyphenated word cause the permalink to possibly fail? I just checked two of my poems and one is long, “through the misty veil of time and space” which was shortened automatically by WordPress by eliminating “ty veil of ” and in the other poem I hyphenate “snow-white” which apparently WordPress also did not like. I suspect I may have discovered part of my missing links problem if this is correct.

Hyperlinks/URL’s can include all alpha (a-z) and numeric characters (0-9) as well as the hyphen. They should not contain spaces or other special characters. Special characters can definitely cause issues. When wordpress creates the URL’s for posts and pages automatically, they will take the title you enter and replace spaces with hyphens, and strip out special characters and punctuation.

ok, I will have to manually edit many of my titles in that case, but it is good to know that beforehand. Again, your assistance is most appreciated! (if only I had known that 900 or so posts ago LOL. Oh well, live and learn.
