Child page not appearing in drop down menu

    I have added a child page (Online Classes) to the parent page Resources. The URL of Online Classes appears to be correct, and I have Resources selected as the parent page, with the page order set at 0. Why won’t Online Classes show up on the website under Resources? I’m going crazy!

  • Hi there, are you referring to the page link in your dropdown menu here?

    The menu is set up so that you can add links and organize it manually. In case there are pages you do not want to offer in your main menu, you have a choice in how to add these.

    You can add this page link to your menu here, under the Menus tab on the left:
    https://wordpress.com/customize/

    @ncccaa,

    Why won’t Online Classes show up on the website under Resources? I’m going crazy!

    Hi. Links to child pages are never, and have never been, automatically added to a custom menu. However, you may choose to have all links to new pages added as top-level menu items by placing a check in the box labeled “Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu” at Customizing ▸ Menus ▸ Menu Options, and then saving the change. You may then move those menu items that link to child pages under other menu items as described in the Reorder Menu Items support page.

    If you were previously accustomed to having links to child pages automatically appear in the navigation menu, the only explanation for this would be that the default pages menu had been displayed instead of a custom menu. You may switch to the default pages menu by unchecking the box labeled “Header” at Customizing ▸ Menus ▸ Menu Locations, and then saving the change.

    The default pages menu may be more convenient for you if only links to internal pages will be needed. A custom menu, on the other hand, allows for links to posts, post category pages, post archive pages, tag archive pages, etc., as well as custom links, including external links.

    Correction: change “all links to new pages” to “links to all new pages.”

    I just realized that you may have already had the box labeled “Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu” checked. This setting only adds links to all new pages to the menu if none have been assigned as child pages before publishing. So if you want links all new pages automatically added to the custom menu, you must either not assign them as child pages at page attributes in the page editor, or only do so after they’ve been published and automatically added to the menu.
