Choosing a domain name?

  Hello, I plan on upgrading to a higher tier and want to know what kind of domain names are available before purchase. Will I be able to select from a predetermined list or will I be able to make custom choices?

  You can choose whatever custom domain you desire as long as it is not already registered.

  I registered a free domain when I first started learning about Word Press. I would like to upgrade my domain and since I have not activated the blog, think I should just give up the first one. Do I just fill out the forms and give up the first domain and then hope I will figure out another? Or do I add a domain and later give up the first free one?

  Hi Norma,

  The free WordPress.com URL you created will always be associated with the blog, even after you purchase and register a custom domain. The custom domain will only mask the WordPress.com URL, but you can always go back to it if you ever decide not to renew the registration of the custom domain.

  Therefore, you can register a custom domain without having to worry about losing the WordPress.com URL you already have. It is still there.
