Choosing best template for ecommerce? Lodestar?
-
Hello, I’m looking to set up a business website through WordPress.com. Couple of things I’m unsure of, wonder if you could help, I’m a UK customer in Scotland, just in case that affects any functions.
1. Do I need to select ‘Business Plan’ option in order to have an ecommerce function?I would like a small shop with a Paypal button for paying fr example.
2. Can I add a shop to any template? I’m interested in ‘Lodestar’ however I don’t know if this is able to have an ecommerce shop?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Many thanks
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

WooCommerce can be used to add an online store to your site but this feature is only available on the Business plan. However, there are other eCommerce options available depending on the sort of the features you need:
If you are looking for something a little more lightweight, then Simple Payments might be a good option. It enables you to embed credit and debit card buttons on your site (there are multiple currency options):

Can I add a shop to any template? I’m interested in ‘Lodestar’ however I don’t know if this is able to have an ecommerce shop?
While you can activate any theme, not all of them are designed to integrate with eCommerce so things may look out of place. These WordPress.com themes will all work well with WooCommerce (Lodestar is in the list):

You may also want to check out the Storefront theme:
https://woocommerce.com/storefront/
It’s a free WordPress theme built and maintained by WooCommerce and integrates well with that plugin.
I’m happy to answer any questions you have!

Hi Thanks for getting back, the shop element isn’t at present the main part of the business, the reason for the site is to showcase my work, however I’d like a small shop somewhere on page for people to buy items. I’d prefer to be able for customers to pay using a PayPal button, is this a thrid party option than means I’d need the business plan? I’m in the UK, if that changes any options, would prefer customers didn’t have to type in credit card for payment. I do like Lodestar butI’ll just have a look at the shop type ones. Many thanks. You’re welcome Thomas!

No — orders through Simple Payments are supported on both Premium and Business plans. Payments are processed through PayPal and visitors will have the option to login to their PayPal account or enter their card details manually:

The Simple Payments button is a simpler version of these standard PayPal buttons, which are supported on all plans (including Free):

I do like Lodestar butI’ll just have a look at the shop type ones.
Although these themes work well with WooCommerce, they can still be used without it :)

Thank you Gemma! I’m a bit clearer now, once I get images and text together I’ll pick a plan and template, looking forward to it! Just didn’t want to pick the wrong plan from the outset. Thank you so much, so helpful! I know I’ll probably get stuck again, good to know help is available! Kind regards Thomas
