Choosing post urls
-
Hi, I currently blog on Tumblr and would like to move to WP. I have been linked to by a lot of sites since I started my blog there, and I would hate to lose traffic from those links by moving to WP. In fact, it’s really important that I don’t lose those links. I’m trying to figure out how to transfer everything as seamlessly as possible – importing content from Tumblr isn’t supported by WP at the moment, so I expect to do things manually. Is it possible, when posting in WP, to give the same post urls as the posts I currently have so someone clicking a link from another site gets the WP post instead of the Tumblr post? Any advice or tips? Thanks in advance.

Post URL’s here will take this form
http://blogname.wordpress.com/2009/08/28/post-title/
You can change the very end of the URL (post-title), but you cannot change the main part of the URL. The above permalink structure is very search engine friendly which is why wordpress uses it.
