Choosing the right plan
-
Hi everyone, my intention is to create a new website for the company I work for. The current company website was created some time ago by a service provider with whom we have not had a great experience. We are keen to transition to a more flexible model that will allow us to build from scratch, make future changes ourselves and also keep the same domain (https://www.resolute.gr/). I have no previous experience building a website and so would appreciate some guidance with regards to choosing the right subscription for our purposes. At a later stage I also think having live-chat support would also be helpful and I understand this feature is included in various plans.
Look forward to your feedback.

Hi Andreas, welcome! We’re happy to answer whatever questions you have.
First, regarding your domain: as long as you or someone in your organization is able to log in and change its settings, you can certainly connect that domain to a new site on our servers. And, you can create the new site first.
You need one of our paid plans to connect the domain. I have some questions to help you find the right plan.
You mentioned wanting to start from scratch. What do you love about the current setup, and what do you want to change?
Are there multiple languages on this site? I noticed you have /en/ — is there a separate set of pages for /gr/ or another language?
And, I noticed you have a menu that displays a preview of each page as you mouse over it. Will you need that feature on the new site version?
By the way, we do indeed include priority support in some plans. You can find more on that here:

Hi supernovia,
Thanks for the quick response time. Please see below my answers to your questions:
Regarding the domain, as I mentioned we’ve been working with a 3rd party provider, so nobody in my organisation has direct access to change its settings. The intention was to create the website and discontinue with the 3rd party before launching, so I guess connecting to the existing domain would be the last step if that makes sense?
I can’t say I love anything about our current setup other than the domain name. We’re looking to completely refurbish the layout so the only thing I intend to keep is some written content and a few pictures.
I’ve been putting together a media file that contains high resolution media content for our new page (images and videos) and I’d like some clarifications with regards to the ideal file size for each. I’m assuming that the larger the file the slower the loading time for anyone browsing our page, but I desperately want to avoid grainy images etc.
We won’t require multiple languages and don’t intend to keep the preview display when mousing over images. Having a mobile friendly layout would however be a plus.
After doing a little more research, I think the Professional plan is a good place to start. In case we require additional functionality, I presume it’s easy enough to upgrade our plan?
Thanks for your time and look forward to your response.

Hi Andreas!
The intention was to create the website and discontinue with the 3rd party before launching, so I guess connecting to the existing domain would be the last step if that makes sense?
That won’t be a problem at all – what we’d recommend is creating a site with a free WordPress.com site address. You are assigned a
.wordpress.comor a.home.blogsubdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site and determine whether or not this is the platform you want to use. The site starts off private until you are ready to launch it.Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over or connect the domain as the last step:

When you say Professional, are referring to the Premium Plan? If so, that is the Plan I would recommend based on everything you have mentioned. If the core of your site will mostly consist of written content and images, this Plan will work perfectly for you.
The only slight concern would be in regards to the amount of space you’ll need for your high-resolution media content – the Premium Plan provides 13 GB of storage space. Before uploading, I would definitely recommend optimizing your images so that they are a smaller file size without compromising the quality. Our support page provides instructions for image optimization along with free software recommendations:
Let’s say you realize that 13GB is still not enough storage space. If you decide to upgrade plans while in the middle of having another plan, you’ll see an upgrade discount while checking out if you’re eligible:
If you’re on the annual plan, everything will be prorated based on the price difference between the two plans and the remaining months you have on your monthly subscription.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
