Chosen Theme not displayed

  Hello

  I am new here. I have chosen a theme and activated it but it is not displayed on my site. My site is still plain and basic ! why? What should I do? Also you mention in the support tips that we can preview the theme Before activating it but this is jot available. I have clicked on the three dots next to the theme and the preview choice is not listed
