Chrome-WP Like Button bug?
-
Apologies if this in the wrong place.
I follow a lot of WP blogs and usually “Like” the posts but the past couple of days the buttons and parade of icons from fellow “likers” have vanished from every one of these blogs.
Chrome is my main browser but I thought I’d try Firefox to see if the problem was universal but it isn’t – hey appear fine in FF. I don’t know how else to flag a bug so can someone in WP confirm there is a clash between Chrome and WP over the like button function on other blogs (they show on mine)?
Chrome was updated last night btw.
Cheers

Hi there,
You’re in the perfect place to report this :)
Can you tell me the exact version number of Chrome you have at the moment? And are you on Windows or MacOS, and which version? Can you also give links to a couple posts/sites where you’re no longer seeing the Like button?
I just updated my installation of Chrome to 97.0.4692.71, and then checked a few sites, and the Likes are showing on them for me, so this could be specific to your Chrome installation.
Try clearing the browser cache and see if that helps. Also please log in using an incognito window, and check if the Likes appear there.

Hi Kokkieh,
Thanks for the reply.
My Chrome build is Version 97.0.4692.71 (Official Build) (64-bit) and I’m using Windows 10. I tried the Incognito window to no avail.
I’ve made a comparison screenshot to illustrate the issue: https://i.imgur.com/oBUDAWs.jpg
and the sites to check yourself are:

Thanks in advance. :-)

Hello there,
Many thanks for providing the screenshot along with the links there.
I am unable to replicate this, so can you tell me if you’re using anything like an adblocker or anything of that nature please?
Also, would you also be able to take a screenshot of these pages, with the console open.
To open this, Right Click > Inspector tools > Console.
Many thanks.

Ack! You’ve hit the nail on the head with the Adblocker!
I had “Block social media icons tracking” enabled on ADBlocker Plus which is supposed to protect my social media profiles and naturally hid them from me. Doh!
Sorry about that. It’s always the simplest solution! I’ll try and be more thorough in my troubleshooting before jumping on these forums. :-/
Thanks again for your time. :-)
