  What would I add in the brackets of the HTML in the Text Widget if I wanted it to allow viewers to share the posts, rather than linking them to my social media sites?

  They best way to share Posts is to enable these here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/

  There are many free social networking icons on the internet. You capture an image of a social networking icon, upload it and link it to your profile page on that specific social media site. Then you display the code in your sidebar in a text widget.
