Claim an unused username

  It looks like somebody took the username “cruiseman” in 2008, and has never actually used the name. I would like to have that name. How can I go about claiming that unused name?

  This is up to the owner of that username. If you can find that person and contact them, and they are agreeable to handing it over to you, they would follow these steps to transfer ownership of the username to you: Transferring Your Blog to Another User or Account

  Unfortunately, the original cruiseman doesn’t seem to have left any contact info around on his profile: cruisemen

  Blog names are the same as usernames for the most part. Usernames can be turned into blog names, but blog names cannot be turned into usernames.

  Username accounts are never deleted. http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/ The answer to your question is you cannot obtain username account someone else has registered – period.

  Also note that there is no expiration date on blogs unused or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog when there is a contact form or comments are open and they consent then there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

  In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.

  Hi again,
  What I posted above is correct. It doesn’t matter which domain URL you own not underlying .wordpress.com blog URL matters at all when one is domain mapping.
