Claiming a domain name that is in use, but obviously dormant

    Hi,

I wish to change the URL of my blog. However, the one I want to change it to is taken by another user.

Their blog hasn’t been updated since 2005.

How can I go about getting my desired domain name — one that would obviously be put to more use if I had it?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com will not take an account/blog URL away at any time: there is no expiration date, no time-limit for how long a site can remain inactive.

You can try leaving a comment on the site asking the owner to transfer the name to you. Or you could use a similar name substituting numbers for letters, adding a number before or after the name, making it plural or singular, and so on. Or you could purchase domain mapping:

Seriously? I know that every company has the right to do as they choose, and being the biggest blog site on the net, you can certainly afford to turn away people, but this is your business model? Sites that people want to use, that they might pay for, are left vacant for eternity because you aren’t willing to stale date it: in many cases after 5 or more years.
Wow, I wish my company had the luxury of turning away paying customers.

Stop posting duplicate threads please. The answers do not chnage simply because you do not like them. Policy stands and venting about it is useless waste of t your time. Everyone in business knows they must spend a little to make more. That’s the way business operates. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-get-an-abandonedstale-domain-back-in-to-the-pool?replies=4#post-1213000

My apologies your highness, I had posted into the other thread before your response, and thought that it would be polite to respond to your reply: obviously I was mistaken.
