Claiming .com under wordpress
-
I already have the .com version of my website under “ipage” but I want to make it under WordPress. How can I cancel the other website and claim it under WordPress?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have davidporraspottery.net through wordpress, and davidporraspottery.com through ipage.

Are you looking to create a new site for davidporraspottery.com? Or would you just like davidporraspottery.com to point to your davidporraspottery.net WordPress.com site?

I’m not exactly sure if I’m using the right terminology, but basically I wanted to select davidporraspottery.com as my wordpress domain, but that domain was already taken by my ipage domain: davidporraspottery.com. I believe I might need to close the ipage website so that davidporraspottery.com will become available for me to choose as my wordpress domain name, but I wonder if there might be an easier way to make this switch? Basically, I already have business cards, etc, with davidporraspottery.com but I no longer want to use ipage, I just want to use my wordpress website. Do you have any suggestions?

Gotcha.
So, all you need to do is set up Domain Mapping for davidporraspottery.com on WordPress.com and then go to your domain registrar and set the nameservers for davidporraspottery.com to point to WordPress. We have a support page on this process here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Take a look through that page and let me know if you have any further questions. I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you, this is really helpful! Now, one more thing- I eventually want to close down davidporraspottery.com under my “registrar.” It’s getting too expensive, per year.
It looks like the Domain Mapping instructions assume you’re keeping your original domain. What would you suggest in the case of me wanting to eventually close the .com?
-
Not to change the subject, but how much is your registrar charging you per year? Godaddy charges me $9-12 or so a year for my domains.

Ouch!
I would try to transfer your domain to another registrar rather than just canceling it. Particularly if you have invested in business materials that have that URL on them.
