Clarification on Mapping

    Hello,

I have a wordpress.com blog. I want to purchase the “Add a Domain” option, but I wanted to double-check and confirm a couple of things before I do:

    1) When I purchase this, does that mean all of my OLDER posts from “DesireeEast.wordpress.com” will fall/re-direct under the new “blog.DesireeEast.com”

    2) Will old links (that might be found on other sites or on old business cards, for example) that had “DesireeEast.wordpress.com”, be re-directed to the new “blog.DesireeEast.com”? Is that what mapping is? I didn’t completely understand if that is what mapping meant.

    Thank You :)

P.S. Do you know how this might affect ‘Google Authorship?’ Because, I have Google Authorship through my WP.org account at ‘DesireeEast.com’.

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

Yes, anything (old or new) using your http://desireeeast.wordpress.com would display the new mapped domain, so any old links would continue to work without issue.

It shouldn’t cause any issue with Google Authorship since there are still two separate domains. You could also still verify your authorship with your WordPress.com site and have both sites acknowledge you as the author.

    Cheers!
