Clarification on “stick this post to the front page”

Since I asked support about this when I couldn’t find the answer here, I thought I’d document the answer.

If you use a static front page, marking a post “stick this post to the front page” will not make the post show up on the front page. That option works to make the post “sticky” so that it shows up at the top of your *blog* page (which is, by default, the front page but will be some other page if you use a static front page). In other words, the flag means “show this post before all other posts,” but it won’t automatically put the specific post before the content on the (static) front page.

As a newbie to WordPress.com (having spent a couple of years over on WordPress.org), I do have to say I’m impressed with the quick response to support questions.
