Clarification requested for tag/category limits
-
tl; dr version — My recent posts aren’t showing up in the tag lists.
I understand that there is some kind of global tag limit, but I’m not sure how it works, nor how to tell if I’ve exceeded it.——————————-
I started a blog late last month. I’ve been blogging for almost two weeks.
Every post I have made until last night, starting with my very first post made on July 29th, up until my first post yesterday morning, has shown up in the tag lists. Every one, without exception.
The exceptions started yesterday with a post I made around noon. Since then, three posts have been made without any of them showing up in the tag lists.
Here are the three that haven’t shown up:

http://geekcomedyhour.wordpress.com/2008/08/07/old-games-on-new-computers/Reading the FAQ, I see that possible reasons why my posts may not be showing up are:
“Using too many tags.” This doesn’t appear to be likely. Two of the affected posts only have two categories. One has four.
“Blog is private.” Definitely not the case. I just double checked to make sure, and the setting is on “Let everybody see the blog.”
“Blog is mature or offensive.” Well, I guess that’s a matter of opinion. I don’t think any reasonable person would classify it as such, however. I’ve used a few curse words here and there, but they’re rare. And the subject matter of the blog is video game humor, in the main. I guess maybe some prankster decided to report my blog as mature, but I don’t know how I would know. How would I know if my blog has been flagged as mature?
“You are misusing the global tag feature.” Well, again, I guess that’s a matter of opinion, but I don’t think I have. I’ve tried to categorize my posts appropriately. Video game jokes are usually categorized under “humor”, “video games”, and the specific video game in question, if there’s a common tag for it. If there isn’t, I just roll with “humor” and “video games”.
“Your blog is very new.” Well, it is, yeah, but the very first post I made on it nearly two weeks ago showed up in the tag lists. If this is the cause, it’s odd that it took nearly two weeks to kick in.
So…what gives? I understand that there’s some kind of limit on tags, but I’m not sure how it works. The maximum number of tags I’ve ever put on a single post is five. Every post I’ve made (30 of ’em now, plus a bunch more scheduled) is filed under the “humor” category, and if I’m reading things correctly, it looks like maybe the blog software looks at how many tags I’ve associated with the “humor” tag? Is that right? Or no?
Anyhow, if anybody has a clue how to fix this, I’d appreciate it.
(Dunno if it makes a difference, but I don’t actually use “tags”. Just “categories”. I have been mostly unable to find what the difference is between these two concepts, so I just use “categories” and not “tags”.)

I’m having the same problem. Some of my material is mature, but not exactly obscene or explicit. I use maybe ten tags, but only recently has that been a problem. Ninety-nine percent of those tags are intimately related to the subject matter.
I think we should be told.
-
I also notice when clicking on a particular tag – “writing” for example – brings up an article whose tags are listed as “uncategorised”. It seems like tags aren’t actually linking to anything sensible anymore.
-
Make that “novels” brings up “Uncategorised”.
Has, perhaps, categories and tags been switched conceptually?
-
So….
Nothing? Nobody knows? No hints?
I have made two more posts, and neither of them have shown up in the tag listings.
I am assuming that this is something I can fix somehow, if only I knew how.
-
I’ll ask that this be looked at – it’s not you, it’s not your blogs and I can’t see why either.
Sorry for the problem. -
Thanks for the reply, the info, and the promise of having someone look at it. It’s much appreciated.

Dunno if I’ve RUINED EVERYTHING or not, but I just went back and deleted and then re-added categories to several of my posts. Deleting a category from the ones that weren’t showing in the tag lists made them suddenly show up. Add the deleted tag back to the post didn’t seem to make them disappear again. So my posts are now showing up in the tag lists again.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that all of these posts were scheduled instead of “published immediately”.
-
YES!
BINGO!
That is your problem. It is a known bug, and staff have worked on it off and on for months. For SOME blogs, when you do scheduled posts they don’t show in the tag pages because, it seems, the pings go out when the post is created, not when it is published, and so you have to go back in afterwards and edit the post, which then sends out a new ping and the post will then appear on the tag/cat pages. The problem is, they show up in the spot where they’d have shown up when they were posted, which can often mean you’re not on the front page of the tag/cat page.
It’s a real nuisance. I have encountered it as well, and it’s exactly why I do not use scheduled posts unless I”m desperate.

Since you all seem to have a better grasp on this than me I’d appreciate any help.
My last 2 posts haven’t come up – one has 6 tags one has 7 both were written and then published straight away. They’re not smut so what have I done wrong?

By the look of it they’re now in the tag lists but not in the tag surfer. I just posted another one. I also did some deleting/re-adding of the tags for the other ones so that may have done it.

.. and this is fine everywhere except for tag surfer.
