Clarify: private blog vs. private posts
-
Currently, my entire blog is private, but I’m curious about making it public but marking certain posts as private. How would certain people (those I allow) then access the private posts? With the same username / password that they currently use to access the private blog? Or would I mark the post to “password protected” instead of “private”? I’m confused! Thanks for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can read this support doc to find out more about this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/
Hope this helps,

Just to clarify: be aware that passwords are as safe as the people who have them; Meaning, anyone who has the password can access the post. There is no “username/password” combination on password protected posts.
Private posts can only be seen by logged in Admins and Editors. You do not want to give your users/viewers that much authority. See here to learn more about user roles: http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
To make a long story short, I’d recommend setting up a second blog just for your public posts and keep your first site Private. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/#adding-new-blog-to-an-existing-account
