Classic admin

Why have you taken away the ability to use the classic editor (by going through Admin)? I HATE the new editor and I don’t want to be spending MORE TIME trying to figure it out than writing!

Please tell me how I can do all the functions with the classic model, NOT the new one!

    Hi there,

While the Classic Editor is still available, it is not recommended to use. You can use the block editor to create media-rich, mobile responsive, and unique websites that the modern internet user expects to see. For help transitioning to the block editor, please see this guide.

You can go through below link to find how to with continue Classic Editor.

I second your complaint! This change has not been announced in any clear way. It took me fifteen minutes to realize that typing /wp-admin/ after the URL of my blog would bring me back to the classic WP cockpit. Please bring back the button to reach the trusted admin interface, and thanks in advance for constructive action to restore this as soon as possible! A clear explanation of this change proposal at the central WP blog would not be amiss…

    Thanks for that tip.

After spending about 20 minutes in the support section, I found how to activate the Classic WP Admin functions in this article.
    https://wordpress.com/support/dashboard/

After activating this advanced function, it seems I default to the classic dashboard and editor.

Thanks forr your reaction, WP staff has not yet responded here.

The snag in the guide for the dashboard and the socalled Unified Navigation is the omission of a clear line about tuning into the classic admin dashboard view and its menus. I really thought the word Classic referred only to the colour schemes used for the dashboard! In the past have written short user manuals, even for WP essentials, both as an It tester and also for volunteers. It is really a challenge to write clearly and to illustrate things effectively.

Once upon a time WP combined the qualities of two blog systems and made it very easy to use. Maybe the time has come for creating at least a socalled fork for classic clean and easy WP old style blogging.

  • Hi there,

If you prefer your navigation to always default to the classic WordPress look, you can navigate to https://wordpress.com/me/account and activate the option called “Dashboard appearance” as illustrated in this screenshot:

We also cover this in more detail on this support guide page if you’re interested:

For me, this last “update” is becoming a final straw…

I, too, prefer the Classic Editor. I began a fourth site several months ago; ended up with GIANT pictures — that was using WP templates, when it looked PERFECT while building it – a true waste of time — I went BACK and rebuilt pages with Classic editor.

NOW – there’s no Admin link?!?

I couldn’t even find a LINK to the “WP Support” never mind the “WP forums”. Took a good 15 minutes of googling.

I had – before all the “Block editor” changes began – contemplated upgrading at least my primary site. Now, I’m back thinking what else is out there for a blogging platform? (Not that I’d delete what I have built up over the past twelve years). Don’t want “media rich” or “mobile responsive”. And REALLY Don’t Want An APP for the Desktop!

My sites are WORD-heavy, the complete opposite of image-heavy. These changes – so-called “improvements” – are really alienating me from this company.
