Classic Block editing palette not allowing scroll
-
I use the Classic Block for the bulk of text in my post. Previously the editor palette would move so I could easily add links to text etc when the post is longer than the editing view pane, but now the palette is stuck up the top. I have to highlight the text I want to link and then very carefully scroll back up the editing palette to hit the link button, and then carefully scroll back down to then add the link.
I’ve just had to change themes this week because my previous one was not supported, and this is my first attempt posting with a new one, so I’m not sure if this is the new normal or if there is something wrong?

Hi there,
I’m curious if you have this issue if you try another device. Do you have access to a laptop or desktop computer you can use as a test? I have looked at one of your recent posts on my Macbook, and I did not have this issue. It seems I am able to scroll without any problems.
I would be curious to know if the issue is on your iPad only. If so can you tell us the iOS version number and Safari version number so we can take a closer look? Also, as a workaround you can use several smaller classic blocks instead of one big one. You can have more than one instance of the block on your posts without issue.
Also if I can ask, is there a reason you prefer not to use the block editor directly for text? Looking at the layout of your blog posts you could have the same layout with native blocks so it does not look like the Classic Block is strictly needed here. Thanks for the additional info!

I don’t have access to a desktop/laptop
I can use the paragraph blocks, I just prefer the convenience of the classic block. The workaround you offered is a good option that didn’t occur to me. I guess I was hoping the ‘stuck’ palette was perhaps due to a setting I’d overlooked or a similarly easy fix.
I’m using a 5th Gen IPad running v16.3.1, I use the Safari browser, but the same issue occurs in the Chrome browser. You can see below in the screenshot how the editing palette isn’t visible in the pane.

I was able to see something similar on my iPhone. If I use the Classic Editor, the editor toolbar thing is not sticky. This was a recent change for you? We don’t do much with the classic block anymore, but we do often update WordPress core, and I wonder if there was a recent change there. Do you remember last time it was sticky?
I just prefer the convenience of the classic block.
Can you clarify what’ more convenient? We’d love to address any remaining issues folks are having with blocks.
I have to highlight the text I want to link and then very carefully scroll back up the editing palette to hit the link button, and then carefully scroll back down to then add the link.
One thought on this: did you know you can highlight a word and paste a URL to create a link? That works in the classic block as well as in regular blocks. Might save a little time since it doesn’t require selecting “link”.
