Blank Screen in New Editor

  • Unknown's avatar

On my blog account: http://www.dynastyiiithenextgeneration.wordpress.com I activated the new Gutenberg editor by accident. Apparently, the Gutenberg editor doesn’t work on the WordPress free plan. Because of this, that particular site is now frozen. I can post. I can’t edit. I can’t add photos. Nothing. How do I resolve this issue without it costing me an arm and a leg?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, I see that this thread has been tagged for Staff assistance, but if you activated the Gutenberg editor from WP Admin dashboard, you should be able to deactivate it in the same place.

    https://dynastyiiithenextgeneration.wordpress.com/wp-admin

If you don’t see the button to activate/deactivate Gutenberg, click the Screen Options in the upper right corner of the window and make sure “New Editor” is checked. (temp screenshot)

Let us know how that goes.

Also, feedback is being accepted about your experience with Gutenberg if you are willing to share it here> https://wordpressdotorg.survey.fm/gutenberg-support

  • Hi there,

Can you please confirm the site you need help with? The Gutenberg editor is not currently enabled on http://dynastyiiithenextgeneration.wordpress.com/

Apparently, the Gutenberg editor doesn’t work on the WordPress free plan.

What plan you have on WordPress.com has no effect at all on how the editor works. What exactly is not working for you? Have you checked whether clearing your browser cache or using another browser makes any difference?

If you usually use the WP-Admin editor rather than the one at My Sites, please make sure your browser allows JavaScript, and that you don’t have a browser add-on installed that blocks that type of code. Like the My Sites editor, the block editor is built with JavaScript and will not work if something in your browser blocks that type of code from loading. The classic editor in WP-Admin would have worked fine for the most part even with JavaScript being blocked.

Hi I activated the new editor and the pages went blank. I’m using Microsoft Edge and Home Edition Windows 10. All was OK when I followed Justjennifer’s post and deactivated the New Editor.

I followed Justjennifer’s post also and it was smooth sailing.

    Gutenberg sucks

is kind of general. If you want to give feedback, indicate exactly what it is that sucked and why you thought it sucked. Thanks.

Because I tried to switch to it and my page went totally blank. NO posting. No editing. No adding photos. NOTHING! My blog became frozen solid. Tired using Chrome, but, according to Chrome, I have not published any posts at all.

OK. That’s more helpful. If you are interested in giving it another go, give @kokkieh’s suggestions a try and let us know how that goes.

I can’t. I don’t have an Admin Editor. Whenever I first log onto WordPress, it doesn’t show up. All that shows up is – from Left to right: The words “My Site”, a little symbol followed by the word “Reader”, a little white square that says “Write”, a little circle with my picture in it and, finally, the little Notifications bell. I CAN NOT access my settings, my features, NOTHING!

If there is some sort of new version of WordPress I have to update to, I CAN’T do that either.

  • @30dizzy34 you don’t need to update anything on our servers, but we appreciate as specific feedback as you can send on this.

I understand you’ve disabled the editor for now; if you feel like enabling again and checking to see whether you run into the same problem in another browser, that would be helpful (as it will help us know whether it’s an issue with your site / account / browser /etc).

Tired using Chrome, but, according to Chrome, I have not published any posts at all.

This suggests you were using a different site or even a different account, for what it’s worth, so if you’re willing to try again and log in as 30dizzy34, thanks in advance.
