Classic Editor

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been gone for a couple years and am somewhat confused about making a post. I never liked the block format. I found how to add a CLASSIC block, but it’s missing the line that says (to begin with) add media. How do you add pictures to THIS editor? Things seem so much harder now. I need a blonde tutorial.

    Thanks,
    Calen

  • Hi Calen,

On which site are you working so I can have a look and further help you?

    Impromptu Promptlings and Peculiar Ponderings

I clicked on the symbol at the top of my home page to make a post. It took me to the block editor. By looking around I found the “classic block,” but I couldn’t figure out how to add a picture. The “Add Media” button was not there. The more I looked, the more confused I got.

Is there some kind of simple tutorial for all this, bac?

Thanks so much, fstat, for answering so quickly.

    Blessings,
    Calen

  • Hi there,

The classic block does actually include the “insert media” option but it’s in a different place due to the fact that the toolbar formatting. look for the camera icon in the toolbar and click it to get that option.

This is difficult to explain in words, so I recorded a quick video to show you how to find the option and add an image.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Found it! I appreciate your help. Should have just started clicking on everything. (rolls eyes)

But now I have another problem. When I pulled up the draft to put the picture in, there are empty blocks like every other paragraph saying it was invalid information. 😕

Did I do something wrong? I pushed the attempt to recover buttons, but nothing happens. Now what? Sorry to keep bugging you…

    Thank,
    Calen~

  • Hi Calen,

Are you speaking of the most recent draft post (currently untitled) you started yesterday?

This is happening because some of your content on the post is in the classic block, while other content is in regular paragraph blocks.

If you’re using the classic block, it’s best to put all your content in that block, so we need to 1) recover the content from the broken blocks, and 2) add it to the classic block instead.

The automatic block recovery isn’t working in this case, so instead click the three dots on the broken block and select “Resolve”. Then select Convert to blocks, copy the content from the paragraph block, and add it on a new line inside your classic block:

Lastly, delete all the paragraph blocks, so the classic block is the only one remaining on the page (you have two empty paragraph blocks above the classic block as well in that draft post, make sure to delete those also).

Well thank you so much, sir, for all the info. I ended up starting all over and I think I sort of got the hang of it. I left the untitled one to practice this block thing on.

I so appreciate the help from all of you. Thanks for your patience and kindness.

    Have a great week!
    Calen~
