Classic Editor

It seems like there’s a couple of variables at play that determine whether the “Classic Editor” link appears when you hover your cursor over the Post or Page Title in the dashboard.

Most importantly, if you created a post or page using the Classic Editor and then click on the Post or Page Title to open it for editing, it will open in the Block Editor and the link to edit in “Classic Editor” will then disappear from the hover menu.

To edit using the Classic Editor and continue editing with the Classic Editor, you must click the hover menu link “Classic Editor”.

If you’ve lost that “Classic Editor” hover link, you can follow what both Staff said in this forum reply and in @franzaurus reply above. However, the “Classic Editor” link doesn’t reappear in the hover menu and you’ll need to continue appending the Post URL as mentioned above to edit in the Classic Editor.

Anyone trying to create a new post using the Classic Editor and not finding the link can add wp-admin/post-new.php?classic-editor to the URL of their site.

Ditto on the removal off Classic Editor. I’m not sure why but this is not the first time for me to discover it missing. I have checked to see if my settings were changed but as usual they were not. It’s very disconcerting to get into my blog and find things rearranged like there is some furniture-moving bandit around but I wish it could just be left alone to be what it is- classic editor. Thanks for listening.

Things seem to be getting more robotic all of the time. I could navigate well with “Classic Editor” but now I can’t even reply to a comment. I just wany to write; I don’t want to go to school or become a software engineer. Frustrating.

  • Hi folks, this thread seems to be in reference to a change from February that has long since been undone. The classic editor should be available for all older sites now.

@evewall and @latskojerry, your sites should have a classic editor option. If they do not, can you each create new support threads and add a modlook tag so we can understand what you’re seeing? To reduce confusion, I’ll also close this thread for now. Thanks!
