Classic Editor?
-
I loathe Gutenberg. I don’t want to use the ‘classic block’ I want to use the real classic editor that doesn’t involve blocks. How can I do this?
I am moving my site here from another host, and I know from experience on my WP sites that I host on my own domain, that copy/paste into blocks creates nothing but headaches. The formatting falls apart… it’s just awful. There, I can disable Gutenberg with a plugin, but I’m not paying for this site, so a plugin isn’t an option.
How do I get the real classic editor on my free WP backend, instead of the awful blocks? I loved the classic editor; it was so easy to use. The blocks? Not so much.

staff-mckluskey can you elaborate how users of wordpress.com do this, where is the option to disable Gutenberg, or does it have to be requested through support?

The answer actually depends on the age of the site. Sites that are older than 6-ish months should be able to switch back to the classic editor on their own.
When the post or page editor is open click on the … in the upper right hand corner for more options. Towards the bottom of that list is the option to switch the editor.
Newer sites need us to make this change from the back end.

I have a bunch of students who are using wordpress for the first time, they made their wordpress sites about two weeks ago and are struggling to use Gutenberg. I can see the option to disable it on mine older wordpress (I was looking in settings). I will tell them where the button is and if they fail to find it to contact support.
Many thanks.

You can also share with them this page:
We have detailed instructions on how to use each block. It gives you way more control over the design of the pages and posts. Since they are learning, it may be more beneficial for them to learn the new editor than the old one that we may stop supporting eventually in the future :)

Please can you put my blog back to classic or let me know how to do it – I hate, loathe, despise blocks and will stop using WordPress if I can’t get rid of them. I want my work to be formatted as I format it, not to be dictated to by blocks.
