Classic Editor??
-
Ok, so some of this might be silly newbie stuff but I’m only a couple of weeks in so if you could humour me, that would be great.
I’m aware that there are problems getting Grammarly to work within the block editor, but I’m dyslexic and I really need Grammarly. It’s the only editor that I’ve really got on with and I’ve tried a few. The workaround that the team at Grammarly have suggested is to use the Classic Editor for now. As I have a new account, I am aware from other posts that I probably can’t switch it myself.
I have a couple of questions before I ask for it to be changed if that’s ok?
I’m aware that the ability to switch is theme dependent, as some of the newer themes were designed with the block editor in mind. I’m using 2016 currently. Will that work ok? If not what would you suggest that is similar. Responsiveness, accessibility and the ability to set a static homepage are my priorities.
Also, can I switch back and forth between the different editor types myself, which I get the impression those with older accounts are able to do, or would I only able to use the classic editor unless it is switched back for me? I’d ideally like to be able to use the block editor for the initial page layout, and then use the classic editor to add the written content, then switch back again to finalise the layout before I post. Is that something that I would be able to do or would that likely cause issues that I am unaware of?
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers my questions. Your help is appreciated.

Hi there,
I am aware from other posts that I probably can’t switch it myself.
You can switch back to classic yourself. You can switch to the classic editor by clicking on the three dots (next to the cog icon) at the top of the post or page editor and selecting “Switch to Classic Editor”.
Here is a screencast of the steps to follow: http://cld.wthms.co/tOOMQu
As you mention, if your site is using one of the business themes, it will not work with the classic editor. You will need to switch to an older theme if you want to have the option to switch to the classic editor. Then, you see the three-dot menu appear to change editors. The twenty sixteen theme you have can change back and forth between the two editors.
Hopefully, that helps.
Thanks,

Thanks for your reply staff-doublebassd.
At least I know it’s not the theme that is causing the problem. Unfortunately, when I follow the screencast, I don’t have the final menu item that shows up “switch to classic editor”. The last one I have is “Options” and that’s it.
I’ve tried it on pages and posts, new and existing and it’s the same with all of them, the final item in the menu is “options” My blog was literally started about 2 weeks ago, so I might be missing something really obvious. Is there something else that I should be doing?

I have no idea why that didn’t come up in the last post

Thank you for that macmanx.
Just one more (daft newbie) question. If for some reason I switch back to the block editor at any point, will I be able to change it back to classic again myself or will I need to ask you guys to do it for me?

Ideally, you should be able to change back yourself, but we’re always happy to help if you aren’t able to. :)

@celinemilan622, which site you want the classic editor? Let me know and I’ll enable it for you.

Morning –
I’ve reset the classic editor for the site in question and see a success message on my end. Please try signing out + back in to the WordPress.com account and then let me know if that does not work.

Can you please check again? The Classic editor is shown as the default editor on that site.
