Classic Editor
-
I have just set this blog up and I am horrified to find that there is no classic editor available like on my old blog, and no option to change it. I have read all the answers in the forum and it seems I need staff to do it for me. Could I have the classic editor please?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We have tips for transitioning from the classic editor to blocks https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/ and FAQs: https://wordpress.com/support/replacing-the-older-wordpress-com-editor-with-the-wordpress-block-editor/#frequently-asked-questions
And, if you really want to use something like the classic editor, we recommend sticking with the classic block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
For more details, please see https://wordpress.com/blog/2020/08/13/the-classic-editing-experience-is-moving-not-leaving/
We do recommend the new editor though, and we have some extensive documentation available at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/

I don’t understand how other people have been allowed to use the Classic Editor when they ask for it, but not me. No worries I will just delete the blog and go elsewhere. Just one last thing, the Classic Editor was the best out of all the blogging sites on the internet (I have used it for 12 years with different accounts), and WP decided to change it to the WORST editor out of all the blogging sites on the internet. No-one wants the new editor and WP just will not listen. Thank you for your time.

@blaiddcelf
You can use the classic editor in your WP Admin dashboard:
https://blaiddcelf.wordpress.com/wp-adminSee here, for the instructions:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-com-classic-editor-deprecation-faqs/#how-can-i-use-the-classic-editorCheers.

@galois thank you for trying to help but I already was in the old admin dashboard. I also know all about the links but it no longer works. The only way to get the Classic editor now is for staff to enable it. Which is why I asked staff in the first place. I have deleted the blog now anyway.

A brand new site won’t have the Classic Editor at WPAdmin yet, but once WPcom finishes changing the entire platform to the Block Editor, you should see a switch at WP Admin to choose between Block and Classic, like in the illustration in the Deprecation FAQ. https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-com-classic-editor-deprecation-faqs/#how-can-i-use-the-classic-editor
If you change your mind about deleting your new site, you can reverse the deletion within 30 days. Just reply to the email you received or post here.
-
@justjennifer thank you. I know that I can reverse the blog deletion, but I also know that I will never like the Block Editor, so there’s not much point really, because at some time in the future the Classic Editor will be retired. Such a shame.

Hello again, I understand you’ve decided not to use the Block Editor, but have you tried just writing in it? The default block is the Paragraph block and you can add images when starting a new block by typing
/imagewhich will bring up a whole array of image insertion options. If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of available blocks, you can limit the number of blocks that appear for you in the Block Manager to just the blocks you need and use. (screenshot)
When in your post or page, click on the Ellipsis at the top right corner of the Block Editor and then click on “Block Manager” under TOOLS (see screenshot 01)
In the next pop-up window that opens, you can uncheck all the blocks that are not relevant for you either by unchecking individual blocks or entire sections by unchecking the box next to the section heading (see screenshot 02)
Unchecking that box doesn’t delete the block; it only removes it from view and you can always re-enable the block later if you decide to use it by checking the box again.
You can find a tutorial on getting started with the Block Editor at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/
Let me know if you have any question about the above.

@justjennifer thank you, you have been very kind and helpful. All I want to do is write, add an image and publish it, like with the Classic Editor, it was simple. Now I look at the Block Editor and my mind can’t function properly as it’s whizzing all over the place. Simple is best. I don’t understand why we need a ‘block’. I don’t understand what a ‘block’ is. I will read through all the links and see if I can make sense of it. Perhaps I just can’t be bothered to start learning something new, as I am at THAT kind of age now LOL. Thank you for your help.

You’re welcome. I understand that no one really likes change to something well understood and used. But the decision to move to the Block Editor was made and that’s really about it. I hope it encourages you that even I managed to beat it into submission. That gray hair you see in my gravatar is the real deal. :)
One other tip that might help you too is pinning the editing toolbar to the top of the screen (provided you’re writing online in a browser window). https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/#more-options That made a huge difference for me in stopping things whizzing all over the place, as you mentioned. Also cutting down the number of available blocks made it more manageable for me, like I mentioned in my above reply.
See if those tips don’t help. You know where to find us if you need more assistance.

the Classic Editor was the best out of all the blogging sites on the internet (I have used it for 12 years with different accounts)
Do any of those WordPress.com accounts still exist? If so why not build a new site using an older account where the wp-admin dashboard will be available.
-
@justjennifer thank you for the tip, although that might confuse me even more, and make my hair greyer. I’m still thinking about trying it to be honest, and it might not be so bad.
@themagicrobot yes I still have the original account, although the blog was deleted long ago. So, are you saying that if I log in with the 12 year old account I would be able to use the Classic Editor? -
Sure you can. I’ve just created a brand new site using my 12 year old account to double check.
-
@themagicrobot WOW! I had no idea. Thank you so much, I really appreciate you telling me that. I am going to log in and see what I can do. Thank you.
-
Cheers, folks.
I do recommend trying to use the block editor, even if you’re just testing, so you can report any pain points you’re running into. The classic editor will keep working for now, but I’d love to have any issues resolved before it’s retired.
