classic editor

I have a simple blog and the classic editor was just right for me. I would like to return to it, and not just the old editor within the new. How can I go back to how it was?

Hey @llstier,
If you have a business plan on WordPress.com you can install the “Classic Editor” again as a plugin. After the installation, you have to activate it.
Your other option is to try the Classic Block instead:

Hi folks, the Classic Editor in the MySite dashboard was a WPcom in-house product that has been retired. The block editor, which has been the default editor for the open-source WordPress software since version 5.0 was released in December 2018, is now also the default editor for all sites on WordPress.com.
The original WP Editor is currently available to you in the WP Admin dashboard via the plugin that WPcom installed for us. Be aware that it is, at best, a temporary solution. According to the WP.org site, the plugin will be officially maintained until December 31, 2021. However, we users do not know what will happen after that time and we do not know if it will be in use here until that time.
So if you choose to write in WP Admin’s Classic editor, start dabbling in the Classic block, https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/ or the full Block Editor https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/ in a test post or page. The more you use it, the easier it will become. FWIW – it took me a few tries and adjusting some settings, like pinning the block toolbar, to make the interface less frenetic, but I only use the Block Editor now.
Post back here if you have any other questions.

Please don’t advise people to upgrade to the Business Plan in order to use the classic editor plugin. As @justjennifer mentioned above, that plugin will not be supported indefinitely, so it is not a long-term solution. The only reason that plugin exists was to ensure backwards-compatibility for folks using themes and plugins that were not ready yet for for the block editor when it launched in 2018.
It was never intended to be a permanent alternative to the block editor, and ultimately recommending it is just delaying the inevitable.
