The classic editor option is changed today and the editing is in a small pop-up box. How do I get full screen for Classic Editor?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have faced exactly the same problem with my site greeceislandshabitant.com
I have asked for technical support through AI of wordpress and by emailing them. In one of my site’s pages i can see the “classic editor” option and on ALL the rest pages it is missing. And the support team of wordpress told me that the classic editor is not “free” availabe since September 8th, 2025. I sent them a 2nd email to explain to me, why the classic editor is available in only one page and i am waiting for their response.

@ducksoap I think the size of the pop-up window depends on the size of the device screen you’re working on. Here’s a quick screenshot of what happens when I expand it to fullscreen on my desktop computer.

Hi there @sofoulenia The original poster is writing about the change in the way the Classic Block works.
I don’t have an answer as to why the Classic Editor option is no longer available except on one page of your site. Have you recently upgraded your WordPress.com plan to include plugins? If so, you need to activate the Classic Editor plugin at Plugins>Installed Plugins
If you have an existing upgrade plan on your WordPress.com website greeceislandshabitant.com but without plugins, see this staff reply https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/are-plugins-available-on-premium-plan/#post-4096243
Hope that helps.

First of all thank you for your recommendations. I have checked and tried all the instructions given through wordpress AI support info. I think it is systemic. The one day everything were working correctly the next day they didn’t. I didn’t proceed to any kind of upgrading/installing plugging or whatever action that would alter the general speceifiactions.
And when i read above that also another user is facing exactly the same issue i understand that it is not our “misusing applications”.
so i wrote an email to the technical support team of wordpress (to avoid the AI typical and steady same info’s) and i am waiting for their contribution to resolving the issue
Since yesterday, i have observed that apart from ONLY one page that had the functionality of “classic editor” today i checked that a lot of other pages of my site have obtained this functionality too.
so i believe that something systemic happened and that someone will resolve it in the next hours.

I was told :
“Here’s the quickest fix: when you’re editing that duplicated post, add
&classic-editorto the end of the URL and press Enter. This will convert it back to Classic Editor format and you can edit it normally. The URL should change from something like
/post.php?post=12345&action=editto/post.php?post=12345&action=edit&classic-editor“It also suggested:
“I understand you want the default changed back to Classic Editor, and I hear how frustrated you are with this change. Unfortunately, I can’t make that kind of system-wide change – that’s a product decision that would need to come from WordPress.com’s development team.
Your feedback about this being disruptive to your workflow is really important though. The product team does review user feedback when making decisions about features like this.
The most effective way to get this request to the decision-makers is through the community forums where product feedback is actively monitored. That’s where changes like this would be considered based on user input.”

I tried to duplicate the page and added the “
&classic-editor” at the end of the url. However, although the classic editor was activated, after some alterations i made on the page, i couldn’t find the “save button” nor any other column on the right of the page i.e. status, publish, slug, author. So the problem with the classic editor still remains… :( -

I did that and accessed classic editor but window it is still too small. There is no option to go full screen.

Folks, it sounds like we may be confusing the Classic Editor and the Classic Block.
The Classic Editor interface looks something like this and the writing area can’t be expanded:

Whereas the Classic Block looks like this once you add the block to the Block Editor Workspace and the pop-up window can be expanded by clicking the “enter fullscreen” icon next to the X in the upper right corner

If you are seeing something different, please share a screenshot. Here’s how you can do that https://wordpress.com/support/make-a-screenshot/

Jennifer until Friday 23rd of Jan, i opened every page/article with the classic editor as it is presented on your 1st picture. Since Saturday i have the same pop up window as “ducksoap” mentioned above. Some of my pages have the functionality of classic editor and some others don’t.
I think it has nothing to do with the manner of inserting infos in my pages or any kind of “mis-clicking” wrong buttons.
I believe it is the wordpress itself and i hope they will answer to my email and clarify the procedures.

So it seems WordPress.com HAVE changed things. With posts I still have the option of editing them with the classic editor. With pages I can still create a new page with the classic editor but I can no longer edit an existing page with the classic editor. I hope they aren’t planning on making the same changes to my existing posts but I suspect they will….

Whoops, perhaps I was too quick to make my conclusions. Only SOME of my pages don’t give me the option of editing with the classic editor. Did I create them originally with the block editor? I don’t think so unless I maybe experimented with it just a few times??

As noted earlier, clicking the expand button on the classic editor does not go full screen, just slightly larger.
A second problem is that when using the classic editor pop-up box access to other functions – preview, code editor – requires the classic editor pop-up to be closed.
I use code editor and closing the classic editor every time and then re-open again is ridiculous.
Also, editing a blog needs several views of preview and the pop-up box has to be closed each time. It’s a mess.

WordPress.com ≠ WordPress.
Self-hosted WordPress (.org):<gwmw style=”display:none;”></gwmw>
- Still allows Classic Editor
- Still allows old workflows
- No paywall for plugins
- Full control over themes
<gwmw style=”display:none;”></gwmw>

I think i have found an option to solve the problem.
- copy or duplicate the page/article that don’t have the option of classic editor.
- In the copied page/article i add at the end of its link, the phrase: &classic-editor. For example: my page was something like that: https://greeceislandshabitant.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=73456&action=edit …. and with the addition it became: https://greeceislandshabitant.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=73456&action=edit&classic-editor.
- Unfortunately i have to do this addittion &classic-editor every time i open the page/article and i want to edit it. But for sure it is a better option than the pop up window.
- I have deleted the initial page/article (and in my site i had this page on the menu). So if the page is part of the menu, the duplicated page has to be added in the same place and afterthat, delete the initial page and rename the duplicated in the name given at first on your menu.
- I hope it is clear the whole procedure and it will help you.
